Check to see if your area has some sort of tax abatement law.  In some areas the property taxes can be put as a lien against the house which will be alright if your goal is to continue to live in the house.

When you sell the house then that is when the property taxes will be paid - out of the money that you sell the house for.

Not every state has the tax abatement option so check and make sure that it is available in your area.

If not and your mother's income can be considered as low-incomed then you may be able to make some sort of payment arrangement with the property tax office.

Basically this all depends on the area where you live.
